Rights Respecting School

We are a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

St James CofE Primary School is a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.  As part of this plan have  recently received our Bronze Rights Respecting award (an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef UK) and are now working towards our silver.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.

Our pupils will learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships.

We really hope that you will be able to support our school on our journey.  For further information about Rights Respecting Schools please visit:  www.unicef.org.uk/rrsa

Congratulations to Agatha for winning the national Show Racisim The Red Card competition

St James Primary School Food Bank

We are proud to announce that we have set up Food Bank Collection Point at St James Primary School.  We have decided to work with Food Bank Aid as they supply a number of different food banks across North London, liaising with each one and supplying what is really needed, thereby avoiding surplus stocks of food or other products.

Food Bank Aid was set up in April 2020 to support North London food banks as they struggled with more than triple the normal demand through lockdown. Since then, they have grown, thanks to the support of volunteers and donors. Every week donations support 15-20 food banks across North London, which together, help around 12,000 vulnerable people including 3,000 children.

The St James School community has always been incredibly generous and supportive of others. We really hope that you will be able to add an extra item or two to your shopping list and bring this to school to be added to our food bank collection.

Where will the collection point be?

The collection point will be set up next to the lost property boxes opposite the bike sheds. You will find two blue boxes with the Food Bank Aid logo on them. Children can place items in the boxes on their way to class in the morning.

What can I donate?

Please check the list attached from Food Bank Aid explaining what items can be donated. Generally, this should be tinned items such as fish, fruit or vegetables and rice, grains and noodles or toiletries. This poster will also be on our notice board and on classroom doors.

When can I start making a donation?

Our collection point will be up and running on Monday 22nd November 2021.

How often can I make a donation?

As and when you are able to. We plan to set this up as an ongoing collection point. We will then deliver the items to Food Bank Aid.

How will your donations get to Food Bank Aid?

Based at Chaplin Square, Great North Leisure Park, London N12 0GL, we will deliver your donations. If however, any parents are able to help with transporting items to the Food Aid Bank hub, please do let the School Office know.

We really hope that you are able to support this initiative and look forward to sharing news and updates with you in the coming weeks and months.

In the week beginning Monday 20th June and to help fund for education for all,

St James Primary School is collecting for a ShoeShare Scheme.

As a Rights Respecting School, we are doing this in collaboration with Clarks (a large chain of shoe retailers) and UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund).  This partnership has already raised over £1.2 million pounds.

We’d like you to contribute by donating your old or unused shoes to our school because every pair shoe of shoes can make a difference.

All you need to do is gather your old and unwanted shoes from around the house, and send them into school with your child on any day from Monday 20th – Friday 24th June.  Children can take them to their classrooms and our Rights Respecting Leaders will collect them from there.

A few things to remember:

Please make sure that the shoes are in relatively good condition, so no holes or broken soles!

Please pair your shoes with a rubber band to make it easier to sort and pack shoes

Thank you from the Rights Respecting Leaders

Congratulations to our elected Rights Respecting Leaders

Well done to our Rights Respecting Leaders for creating this brilliant display of artwork to celebrate World Earth Day
