Fencing

As well as running an after school club every Friday, FightingFit also teaches fencing to our Years 6s every Friday afternoon.  It is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn and practice a new sport and skill and many of our children have gone on to compete in competitions.

Swimming

Our Years 4 - 6 take part in swimming lessons at a local pool on Mondays.

A Life Healthy Workshops

This week we reminded ourselves that it is important to keep our bodies as  fit and healthy as our minds!  A Life – who specialise in talking to children about fitness and a healthy lifestyle - came to run workshops with each of our classes.  Our younger classes took part in some fun fitness games in the hall and our older classes got to try new skills such as boxing as they did circuit training.

Dance

We love taking part in dance workshops and this is from when we celebrated Chinese New Year.

Chess tournaments

We have a very active chess team who meet every Monday for an after school club and take part in a  number of local league and inter school competitions

Football

We have astroturfed our cage and now have a number of very popular after school football clubs for all years.

Tag Rugby taster sessions

As part of our Year 3s enriched curriculum and aim to 'become Olympic champions and athletes', the class took part in a tag rugby taster session in the Autumn term

Bikeability

Cycling is a life skills that we value at St James Primary.  This September, our Year 5 and 5s got the opportunity to take level 1 of a Bikeability course where they took part in a range of activities that increased their onfidence in the cycling ability.  In the Summer term, our Year 6s will take part in a course for slightly older children where they learn to ride safely on the streets of our local area.
